Muscle Therapy
Due to her lifelong battle with scoliosis, Joa has found ways to rejuvenate and heal her own body. She found one of the best ways to balance her energy was through Thai Massage, and became Thai massage certified from TMT (Toronto Thai Massage School) in 2013. A way to give and take through ancient techniques and breathing. She has also studied Chi Nei Tsang at the Omsala School in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the Detox Massage by Mantak Chia, cupping and Gua-sha therapy in 2018.
Thai Massage and Chi Nei Tsang (detox massage)
75 minutes
During a muscle therapy treatment session, Joa combines all of these techniques to release tension and muscle tightness. She also incorporates breathing and mindful awareness techniques into the treatment, as it is our emotions that block energy lines and are a contributing factor to physical disease.
Thai massage is a great therapy used to relax the body and mind and can sooth and decompress muscles from the tightness caused from daily stressors. As a Thai Massage practitioner, Joa helps her clients improve mobility and range of motion using this amazing ancestral bioenergetic therapy. Thai massage incorporates stretching, palming and pressure points in a soothing therapeutic dance of movement. This ancient healing method from Thailand is amazing and highly effective, leaving you feeling restored and rejuvenated.
Gua sha or scraping is also used during Joa’s session to stimulate blood flow and promotes detoxification of the lymphatic system, reducing inflammation and boosting the immune system. This treatment also helps move toxins out of the body and break up scar tissue.
Joa incorporates Thai Massage as part of the 75 or 90 min yoga sessions
The treatments address: scoliosis, tight hips, rotator cuff injuries, chronic neck/lower back pain, frozen shoulders, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee and foot problems, headaches, constipation, stomach pain, anxiety, depression and sports injuries
Chi Nei Tsang ( CNT ) detoxifies, restructures and strengthens the body. Although the focus is mainly on the abdomen, the entire body benefits from treatment. All systems of the body are addressed, including: digestion, respiration, nervous and reproductive systems and the immune system.
CNT stimulates the internal organs to work more efficiently and helps correct postural problems resulting from an imbalance in the abdominal area. From this treatment, deep-seated tensions are released and vitality is restored. The body functions more optimally as a whole.
CNT helps to balance emotions and release negative energy accumulated in the core area.
In Gua Sha, the skin is scraped with short or long strokes to stimulate microcirculation of the soft tissue, which increases blood flow. These strokes are made with a smooth-edged instrument known as a Gua massage tool. The technician applies massage oil (generally coconut oil) to your skin and then uses the tool to repeatedly scrape your skin in a downward motion.
Gua sha is intended to address stagnant energy in the body (called chi), that practitioners believe may be responsible for inflammation.
